The master of stop-motion special Effects, Ray Harryhausen, created many memorable creatures. One of the most popular is the Cyclops and he did more than one version. Star Ace had such great success with the original single horned Cyclops that now they are bringing out the 2-horned version, most famous for fighting a dragon. This menacing creature has an articulated eyeball that can be rotated. His jaw is also articulated for different display options. Traditionally sculpted by the artisans of the famed creature shop of Kaibutsuya, this detailed Cyclops statue is made from soft vinyl and stands 32cm tall. An extremely limited new release of the Woolly Mammoth 2.0 will feature snow decoration on the animals and base to recreate these majestic creatures in the cold environment of the last Ice Age. Sculpted by renowned animal sculptor, Sean Cooper, this polyresin mammoth statue features this prehistoric creature and child on a base representing her natural habitat.
The Woolly Mammoth or Mammuthus primigenius roamed much of the Northern Hemisphere as recently as 4,000 years ago. Standing approximately 3 meters tall and weighing over six tonnes, this elephant ancestor was an important resource for early humans. This polyresin statue of the Mammoth is 33cm long and stands 22cm tall. She is depicted with her young calf on a diorama base of a rocky outcropping covered in snow. This all-new sculpt has been painted by the Japanese artisans at X-Plus. Only 150 pieces of this variant will be produced, and it will quickly become a much sought after collector’s item! Awakened from its long hibernation by reckless atomic bomb testing, the Rhedosaurus rises from the ocean depths to attack the human population. It is a vicious ancient creature that creates havoc in a modern New York. The monster attacks and crushes a train car in this new version. Traditionally sculpted by the artisans of the famed creature shop of Kaibutsuya, this detailed Rhedosaurus statue is made from soft vinyl and stands 32cm tall. The diorama base featuring the train car is polyresin. Each piece is hand-painted to bring out the details of the sculpt. The Rhedosaurus comes in two variants, either in vibrant color or depicted in the monochrome of a black and white movie.
X-Plus was at Super Festival Extra Vol. 6 and revealed some new figures, kits, and more. The display was light on Godzilla/Ultraman items but still had some cool reveals these included a Cyclops bust (second bust revealed after the Kraken bust), Two Horned Cyclops figure, Creature From The Black Lagoon (the kit is based on the sequel), Trog statue (Trog was a creature who appeared in the 1977 fantasy movie Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger. A cross between a human and ape with a unicorn horn.), King Maimai Larva Stage, and a new version of the Star Ace T-rex a redheaded version. There was also hints at future kits.
There was also a number of current pre-orders on display including Godzilla Ultima, Gamera kit, Jurassic Park T-rex kit, Metropolis Maria Silver Screen Edition kit, and the various Space Cyclops releases. SNAKE WOMAN (NAGA) 30CM SOFT VINYL STATUE WITH CARPET (RAY HARRYHAUSEN) In mythology the Naga were beings that could be either human, serpent or something in between. Ray Harryhausen created this dancing Snake Woman and her fluid movements are a testament to his mastery of stop-motion puppetry for The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad. Star Ace has recreated the Harryhausen puppet as a 30cm tall soft vinyl statue, posed in mid-dance with her four snake like arms extended in all directions. The lower snake portion of her body is detailed with realistic snakeskin texture, and she sits on a base that simulates the exotic carpet of the sultan’s palace. The Deluxe version also comes with a backdrop that represents the walls of the palace to complete the diorama. Star Ace is releasing the Triceratops Soft Vinyl Model Kit, a kit based on there original Triceratops vinyl figure. This kit stands 17cm tall, and 40cm in length once assembled, is 10 parts, is limited to 400 pieces, and will retail for $98.99. It can be pre-ordered now from Star Ace and other retailers with release scheduled for Q1/Q2 2023.
X-Plus is releasing the 1/8 Scale Metropolis Maria Plastic Model Kit Silver Screen Version, a new color version of the gold kit previously released. It is approximately 26cm tall when completed (Maria about 22cm tall, base about 4cm tall), it is molded in silver, clear, and dark gray, and it will retail for approximately $49.99 (less at some retailers). It is available from multiple retailers with release scheduled for April 2023.
The silent film "Metropolis," directed by Fritz Lang and released in 1927, a pioneering science fiction movie, is one of the first full-length films in the genre; in 2001, this film became the first film added to UNESCO's Memory of the World Register. Maria, the mechanical human created by the scientist Rotwang in the film, is one of the first and most iconic robots ever depicted on the silver screen -- and now X Plus brings us an amazing model kit of Maria for your own collection! X-Plus was at Super Festival Extra Vol. 5 and as usual they revealed a number of figures but this time most were not giant monster related. X-Plus showed off their Space Cyclops glitter versions publicly, they are the same sculpt as previous version and will retail for 9,500 yen. Revealed were the full painted Mysterian Aliens for the Toho Maniac line which will be released in March 2023, it is unclear if they are going to be a set of individual figures. Two new model kits were shown, Dracula, he features a base with name plate and it will released 2023, also shown was the T-rex from Jurassic Park, it features the paddock fence and base. Also shown was was the 2.0 versions of the Wonders Of The Wild Spinosaurus, and Kali, the Spinosaurus is different in color and slightly different base, Kali is a different sculpt completely, no other info was available on these. Also on display were a number of other already announced figures.
Star Ace has prepared a very limited special edition of Ray Harryhausen’s Cyclops, a look taken directly from a popular Japanese movie poster for The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad. In this poster the huge imposing monster is green, and this special color version of the statue is limited to only 150 pieces.
