From New York Times best-selling writer Matt Kindt (BRZRKR, THE HERO TRADE) and master illustrator Lewis LaRosa (PUNISHER MAX, BLOODSHOT) comes an explosive cosmic odyssey of unparalleled scope and artistry.

Twenty minutes ago, a massive monolith crashed into the heart of Baltimore, obliterating 16 square blocks. No one knows where it came from or why. Somehow, the monstrous deep space object evaded the global surveillance net. Three elite breach teams were dispatched to penetrate its outer shell and disable it.

Ten minutes ago, it sprouted tendrils that began ripping apart nearby streets, cars and even people using the raw material to print itself larger. Police, SWAT, the Feds, even NORAD were powerless to stop it.

Just two minutes ago, the megalithic anomaly achieved its final form -- a gigantic, hundred-story tall, humanoid, mecha-robot -- then began marching towards Washington, DC.

Now, our only hope is Officer Jack Casey, a beat cop scarred by the past, who along with what remains of the breach teams must scale the robot from the inside. If they can reach the head, they can destroy it, but time is running out. The government has scrambled a nuclear response and the world has just learned that a second, bigger monolith is about to impact Earth.

Universal Monsters: Creature From the Black Lagoon Lives! Black & White Special #1 Cover A by Matthew Roberts
The Limited Series by Dan Watters, Ram V & Matthew Roberts Gets a Remaster This Summer
Press release
LOS ANGELES 02/09/2026 —Skybound Entertainment, in partnership with Universal Products & Experiences, proudly announces the remastered release of Universal Monsters: Creature From the Black Lagoon Lives! #1 (of 2), the limited comic book series from writers Dan Watters (Batman: Dark Patterns, Destro) and Ram V (The Many Deaths of Laila Starr, Batman: Detective Comics), with art by Matthew Roberts (Manifest Destiny). Rising from the depths, the creators return to present the first two issues of their series in stunning, remastered black and white.

Originally released as a four-issue limited series, Universal Monsters: Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives! picks up years after the events of the 1954 Universal Pictures’ film. Journalist Kate Marsden hunts for a notorious serial killer in the heart of the Amazon. Hot on the trail of this madman, she soon encounters an unexpected new threat–but is he a friend or foe? Or is he simply…THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON?

“After the massive success of our Dracula Black & White Special, we’re thrilled to return to the Black Lagoon!” said Alex Antone, Editorial Director at Skybound. “Dan Watters and Ram V delivered an incredible crime story that fans never saw coming, and Matthew Roberts’ stunning art may look even better in black & white.”

In addition to Gill-Man himself, the series introduces new characters like journalist Kate Marsden and serial killer Darwin Collier, along with a returning character from the film – the mysterious Doctor Edwin Thompson.

Released as part of Skybound and Universal Products & Experiences’ expanding Universal Monsters comic line, Creature From the Black Lagoon Lives! followed the Eisner Award-nominated Universal Monsters: Dracula by James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds and was later joined by titles including Michael Walsh’s Frankenstein, Faith Erin Hick’s The Mummy, James Tynion IV and DANI’s The Invisible Man, and the upcoming Universal Monsters: Phantom of the Opera by Tyler Boss and Martin Simmonds. Each installment pairs top creative talent with one of pop culture’s most legendary horror icons, delivering fresh, standalone stories for longtime fans and new readers alike.

Little Shop Of Horrors Issue #52, Gorgo The Big One

Little Shop Of Horrors  The Journal of Classic British Horror Films Issue #52, Celebrating 53 Years With Gorgo

In 1961, mama Gorgo (Orga) tore London apart while going to save Gorgo Junior. For film goers of that period, it was a gorgeous, colorful, knockout. For M-G-M, and particularly the King brothers, (or as they were originally known – the Kozinsky brothers) Maury, Frank and Hymie, it was a successful trip into the ‘man-in-a-suit-asaurus’ realm that Toho had instigated with their original Godzilla.

In our massive (270 full size pages/over 625 rare high quality black & white and color images) study of the film, you’ll learn all the inside info on how it came to be. Not just from the previous Eugene Lourie articles with Paul Mandell, or Lourie’s auto-bio, but lots of never seen or read production information and comments/stories from crew members.

AND, you’ll have the fascinating, full story of the King/Kozinsky Bros., from their early ‘slightly’ gangster- like businesses, to very successful independent movie producers (Dillinger. Gun Crazy. The Brave One (Academy Award © winner). In the movie Trumbo, John Goodman plays Frank King to perfection.

Stephen R. Bissette on the Gorgo (Konga & Reptilicus) Charlton comic books. Lee Kaplan writes about the models and toys based on Gorgo.

  • Covers by Mark Maddox and Neil Vokes
  • Hundreds of Behind-the-scenes Photos, NEVER SEEN before, showing how all the monster and effects scenes were filmed and achieved by Academy Award © winning SPFX director Tom Howard, and photographed by another award winner – Freddie Young.
  • 11 Full Page Color Paintings including Basis Gogo’s Famous Monsters of Filmland #11. BRUX(David Brooks). Bob Eggleton. The Gurch. Tim Hammell. Alistair Hughes. Ron Lizorty. Stewart McKissick. Adrian Salmon. Mike Schneider. William Stout.
  • 270 Pages As Joe Dante says in his introduction – ‘Like Nothing You’ve Ever Seen Before.’
  • Price $39 plus $6 shipping, early November 2025, https://www.littleshoppeofhorrors.com/, Amazon

James Aquilone is launching the Kickstarter for Monstrous: The Kaiju Issue, a kaiju sized magazine, the Kickstarter campaign for this is now live, check out the info below.

MONSTROUS: THE KAIJU ISSUE Features a Brand-New Konga Vs. Gorgo Comic,
the Debut of American Kaiju MegaSquatch, Creepy Covers by Larry Tuason and EV Cantada,
and Much, Much More

September 8, 2025 - Bram Stoker Award-winning editor and writer James Aquilone’s Monstrous Books has celebrated the traditions of pulp fiction and classic movie monsters with MONSTROUS MAGAZINE, an acclaimed black-and-white magazine-format comic book anthology which features some of the most interesting and inventive genre writers being published today. Now MONSTROUS MAGAZINE will look east for the inspiration for its next all-star anthology: MONSTROUS: THE KAIJU ISSUE will celebrate the legendary monsters from Japan, just in time for the ongoing global celebration of Godzilla’s 70th anniversary. The Kickstarter campaign for MONSTROUS: THE KAIJU ISSUE is now live.

MONSTROUS: THE KAIJU ISSUE features a fantastic line-up including:
  • Godzilla at 70, a celebration of the King of Monsters by Patrick Macias (The Essential Anime Guide: 50 Iconic Films, Standout Series, and Cult Masterpieces).
  • A Brief History of Kaijus by Samuel Sattin (Unico: Awakening).
  • An all new kaiju design by Dinosaur Sanctuary mangaka Itaru Kinoshita.
  • “The Colossus From the Crater," a brand-new sci-fi short story set on a remote moon and featuring a giant alien mummy, penned by novelist Greg Cox, who wrote the official prose adaptation of Godzilla (2014), soon to be reprinted in a new omnibus edition.
  • An all-new Konga vs. Gorgo comic, featuring the creatures from the cult 1960s American International Pictures movies and Charlton Comics, written by James Aquilone and illustrated by Dave Swartz (Confederate Monster)
  • Ninjago writer and the co-founder of Wandering Planet Toys, Chris “Doc” Wyatt explores the long history of Godzilla toys.
  • The first appearance of the Kaiju MegaSquatch, in a comic book story by James Aquilone and EV Cantada (Joe Ledger, Grimm Fairy Tales)
  • Superfan Promotions co-host David Hyde charts the history of music in iconic kaiju cinema.
  • Three iconic covers — a Konga vs. Gorgo cover by Larry Tuason (Knightingail: The Legend Begins), a MegaSquatch cover by EV Cantada and colorist Zac Atkinson and a Godzilla cover.

Just like the creatures themselves, this magazine (previously digest size) will be enlarged to a full-size 8.5-x-11-inch format. “When I decided to do a Kaiju issue of MONSTROUS MAGAZINE I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to do a Kaiju-size magazine, so we’re going from 5.5 x 8.5 to 8.5 x 11 inches,” said James Aquilone. “And that’s just the beginning. We’re resizing the  MONSTROUS MAGAZINE back issues, too, and now, for a limited time, they will be available in the new collectible, oversized Kaiju format.”

Previous issues of MONSTROUS MAGAZINE, feature a mix of comics, prose stories, and articles. The debut issue includes:
  • A collectible cover by Colton Worley (Kolchak: The Night Stalker 50th Anniversary Graphic Novel, The Shadow)
  • An essay by Elvira Mistress of the Dark writer David Avallone about the legacy of his father, pulp legend Michael Avallone
  • A reprint of pulp legend Michael Avallone’s first short story "The Man Who Walked on Air, " originally published in Weird Tales in 1953
  • The very first Dead Jack comic, "Dead Jack and Oswald Meet Frankenstein," written by James Aquilone and illustrated by J.K. Woodward
  • "Monster Rally," a comic story by Nancy A. Collins with art by Zac Atkinson

Other rewards for the MONSTROUS: THE KAIJU ISSUE campaign include an exclusive Kaiju challenge coin and the debut issue of MONSTROUS PRESENTS, a 32-page comic reprinting “Rise of the Morlocks” and “Dead Jack and Oswald Meet Frankenstein,” both by James Aquilone and artist J.K. Woodward.
