Your First Look at Michael Walsh’s Universal Monsters: Frankenstein #1
The First Chapter of the Four-Part Limited Series Launches August 2024
LOS ANGELES, CALIF. (July 9, 2024) — Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics, in partnership with Universal Products & Experiences, revealed a stacked slate of variant covers and interior pages from Universal Monsters: Frankenstein, a new four-issue limited comic book series from award-winning artist/writer Michael Walsh (The Silver Coin).

Longtime fans of the iconic 1931 Frankenstein film and new fans alike can expect to be completely enthralled by this new horror classic when issue #1 hits comic book shops on August 28, 2024.

Comics superstar Michael Walsh resurrects one of the most iconic monsters of all time in a jaw-dropping, re-imagining of the horror hit. Readers can expect each issue of the limited series to tell the shocking story behind one of the corpse parts used to create the unforgettable monster in the original film.

In this first issue, Dr. Henry Frankenstein begins his unholy quest to create life by robbing the grave of a decorated police officer to find necessary parts, specifically a strong pair of hands. But little does he know that the corpse has a son who is mourning a father – and that this young boy will forever change Frankenstein’s life.

In addition to the main cover by Michael Walsh, Universal Monsters: Frankenstein #1 boasts a variant cover lineup from top artists including Joshua Middleton, David Talaski and Christian Ward, as well as the first of a four-part connecting cover series by Francesco Francavilla and a blank sketch cover.

Universal Monsters: Frankenstein is the third Universal Monsters comics series launch from Skybound, following James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds’ Dracula (which netted Simmonds a BEST PAINTER/MULTIMEDIA ARTIST (INTERIOR ART) Eisner Award nomination) and Dan Watters, Ram V, and Matthew Roberts’ Creature From the Black Lagoon Lives! Frankenstein will be followed by more new limited series pairing the biggest names in comics with pop culture’s most iconic monsters.

Universal Monsters: Frankenstein #1 (of 4) (Lunar Codes Below | SRP: $4.99) will be available at comic book shops and digital platforms including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, Google Play, and Omnibus on Wednesday, August 28, 2024.

ABOUT UNIVERSAL MONSTERS
Over 75 years ago, Universal Pictures introduced the public to some of the most iconic horror characters in cinematic history that would live on in pop-culture for decades to come. Now known as Universal Monsters, these larger-than-life creatures, including Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, and The Wolf Man, continue to haunt our nightmares today. The original Frankenstein, written by 20 yr old Mary Shelley, was first published in 1818. The 1931 film adaptation starring Boris Karloff as the monster made of corpse parts brought back to life, was a perfect blend of awe-inspiring terror and gentle heartbreaking pathos.
