Press Release
May 19, 2016 — You can’t keep a good giant monster down, especially when he’s being very, very bad! Kraken Releasing is proud to continue the tradition of releasing the very best in kaiju (giant monster) entertainment with the first U.S. release of the complete and uncut THE RETURN OF GODZILLA® (aka GODZILLA™ (1984))! Available on both Blu-ray and DVD, and featuring both the original Japanese version with English subtitles, as well as an English dubbed version, this special release is the Godzilla® epic that fans and collectors have been waiting for.
With a higher budget and more advanced special effects than any previous film in the series, THE RETURN OF GODZILLA® returns Japan’s greatest monster to his intended role as an epic force of destruction and the film’s spectacular success re-launched the Godzilla® franchise after nearly a decade in suspended animation.

Unfortunately for North American audiences, this direct sequel to the original 1954 feature film has previously only been available in a highly edited version that cut over twenty minutes of original footage and effects, changed key plot points and altered the dark dramatic tone and narrative by inserting additional scenes and humor in an attempt to “Americanize” the film. But now, at long last, the acclaimed kaiju masterpiece finally hits American shores in all its uncut original glory! Get ready for the biggest Godzilla® epic that you’ve never seen as Kraken Releasing unleashes the complete and unedited THE RETURN OF GODZILLA®!

THE RETURN OF GODZILLA® will be released on September 13th.

Toho released two trailers today a 30 second spot (below) and a full trailer (above) and there was pics (bottom) and info from Cinema Today (Japan) and the official Shin Godzilla site. The movie, which is to be released July 29th, will be released in IMAX as well as 4D ([4DX] [MX4D]) at the same time in Japan. It seems to hint that this will be the biggest release of the year in Japan, I don't doubt it.

Toho is re-releasing all of the Godzilla movies on DVD ahead of the release of the new film Shin Godzilla.

These movies, which include the American Godzilla films, will feature added content including audio commentary, postcards, stickers, as well as having special packaging.

They will be released on June 15, 2016 and retail for 2700 yen (approx $24 US) and will be available from Amazon Japan and maybe available through other retailers as well.

These are Japanese releases and are not available outside of Japan for other regions.

It is odd that these are being released since they have all been released on Blu-ray recently for Godzilla's 60th Anniversary only two years ago.

Earlier we posted the announcement regarding Shin Godzilla including the Godzilla Vs Evangelion promo print now we have more pics of the merchandise (below) and there were logos as well (above) besides the print. There was rumor as well of a crossover movie but that part was a April Fool's joke on Toho's part but considering Neon Genesis Evangelion director Hideaki Anno is doing Shin Godzilla is wasn't so far fetched.

As posted a few sites online we now know the official title of the new Japanese Godzilla movie, Shin Gojira (or Shin Godzilla). We also now know the main cast, Hiromi Hasegawa, Yutaka Takenouchi and Satomi Ishihara. Satomi Ishihara has previously worked with co-director Anno Hideaki on ATTACK ON TITAN film, and was also a recipient of the Japanese Academy Award for Best New Actress. Co-star, Hiromi Hasegawa also won an Academy Award for Best Newcomer. Famed Japanese actor Yutaka Takenouchi, who is also a Japanese Academy Award winner Best Lead Actor. They all definitely help create some major positive buzz for the film's possibilities. There is also info to say Shin Gojira may be the biggest Godzilla ever, even bigger then Legendary's Godzilla. The film will also take place in current day Japan. More info as we get it.
Update: A website for the new film has launched - http://shin-godzilla.jp/.
