 Press release
June 1, 2024 – Get ready to experience the King of the Monsters from the comfort of your own home! Toho International, the U.S.-based subsidiary of Japan's Toho Co. Ltd that has brought classic Godzilla to life, today announced that the Academy Award®-winning smash hit Godzilla Minus One is stomping its way onto Netflix on June 1. The film, also available simultaneously for digital purchase/digital rental across additional platforms via Premiere Digital, opened in US theaters in December 2023 and quickly became the highest-grossing Japanese live-action film in US box office history.

In addition to both subtitled and dubbed language versions of Godzilla Minus One being available to stream on Netflix (worldwide excluding Japan and with France coming at a later date), Godzilla Minus One and Godzilla Minus One/Minus Color are today available simultaneously for digital purchases/digital rentals in the US and Canada in subtitled versions across Amazon, Apple iTunes, Google Play, Microsoft, and FandangoNOW/VUDU, inDemand, XBOX, and Vubiquity. Additionally, both Godzilla Minus One/Minus Color and Godzilla Minus One will be offered through Dish at $14.99 for purchase and $5.99 for rent. DirecTV will also launch both versions of the film, with Godzilla Minus One/Minus Color at $14.99 for purchase and $5.99 for rent and Godzilla Minus One at $9.99 for purchase and $5.99 for rent. Godzilla Minus One/Minus Color will also make its way onto Netflix later this summer.

Set in postwar Japan, Godzilla Minus One sees Godzilla bring new devastation to an already scorched landscape. With no military intervention or government help in sight, the survivors must join together in the face of despair and fight back against an unrelenting horror. From renowned director, screenwriter & VFX visionary Takashi Yamazaki (The Eternal Zero, Stand By Me Doraemon) comes Godzilla Minus One, a film about the power of home in the face of despair. The film stars Ryunosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe, Yuki Yamada, Munetaka Aoki, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Sakura Ando, and Kuranosuke Sasaki, with music by Naoki Sato.

As the latest domestic Japanese Godzilla film since the popular Shin Godzilla in 2016, Godzilla Minus One became the first Japanese movie to win the Academy Award® for Best Visual Effects. This also marked the first time a Godzilla film was recognized by the Academy in its 70-year franchise history. Godzilla Minus One also garnered a list of impressive accolades including numerous Critics Groups Awards for Best Visual Effects as well as for Best Film, and was named Best International Film at the prestigious Lumière Awards, which honors outstanding achievement in the creation of immersive storytelling. The film also won  8 Japan Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
