As most of us know Godzilla evolves during the course of Shin Godzilla from some type of sea creature to his final gigantic form in the film, but thanks to The Art Of Shin Godzilla book we know that actual may not be his final evolutionary form.

As most of us learned in school evolution happens over many generations over thousands, millions, even billions of years, but what if something triggered it to happen quicker.

In Shin Godzilla this certainly looks to be the case, in the film there are four "forms" that Godzilla goes through, with the ending leaving open to a possible fifth form.

The thing is there are most likely many more forms to Godzilla during his evolution, as speculated when he was revealed that his early stage looks a lot like a Frilled Shark (bottom), and while he may not have been specifically a Frilled Shark he almost certainly evolved from something like that possible an unknown sea creature.

His evolution was most likely accelerated by nuclear energy, very much like past versions, so instead of taking years it takes days but it is not just the normal evolutionary process it's something far more scary.

It appears in the film Godzilla can adapt also at greater speed shown by him suddenly having new abilities, not only shooting the ray from his mouth but then his back as well.

One adaption is his ability to absorb other life forms, his tail is the first evidence of this showing what appear to be other sea life.

As in the films final scene, and now from The Art Of Shin Godzilla book, we realize the next evolution is human/Godzilla hybrids, but the question could be why.

We are possibly the most intelligent creatures on the planet but obviously not the most powerful, Godzilla "realizes" this so he absorbs humans into his body to "use and learn" from us.

The human/Godzilla hybrids could be in a sense our replacements
going forward, they can fight us on more of an individual basis, one to one, where Godzilla can't, and allow Godzilla to continue to evolve even further. It's sort how we out lived the dinosaurs, we evolved to adapt better then they did. Godzilla maybe realize bigger isn't nessacarily better or that he needs to be more able to fight us.

Godzilla could be essentially making himself into a "God" like figure to his followers the human/Godzilla hybrids, "The Children Of Godzilla", his own race so to speak, what more perfect evolution could there be. We will just have to wait for the potential sequel to find out.
