Warner Bros. has announced the release of Rampage on home video, Digital on June 26, and 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray on July 17. It will be available on 4K, Blu-ray (3D and standard), and DVD, Best Buy will have a Steelbook exclusive, no word on other exclusives. Check out the info below. Also of note Rampage has officially passed Pacific Rim's (2013) worldwide box office, it has hit nearly $414 million (almost $3 million more).

Peyton directed from a screenplay by Ryan Engle, Carlton Cuse, Ryan J. Condal and Adam Sztykiel. The film's story was written by Ryan Engle.

"Rampage" was produced by Beau Flynn, John Rickard, Brad Peyton and Hiram Garcia. It marks the third collaboration between Johnson, Peyton, Flynn and Garcia, following the international blockbuster hit "San Andreas," Warner Bros.' highest grossing film of 2015, as well as 2012's global smash "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island." Executive producers were Marcus Viscidi, Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, Jeff Fierson, Toby Emmerich, Richard Brener and Michael Disco.

The creative team includes director of photography Jaron Presant, production designer Barry Chusid, editors Jim May and Bob Ducsay, and costume designer Melissa Bruning. The music is composed by Andrew Lockington, who created the scores for "San Andreas" and "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island." Serving as co-producers were Wendy Jacobson, Josh Mack and Dana Robin.

The "Rampage" creatures were brought to life by acclaimed VFX supervisor Colin Strause, with five-time Academy Award-winning visual effects company Weta Digital.

The Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack features the theatrical version of the film in 3D high definition and high definition; the Blu-ray Combo Pack features a Blu-ray disc with the film in high definition, a Blu-ray disc with the special features in high definition, a DVD with the film in standard definition and a Digital version of the movie.

The 4K Ultra Blu-ray disc of "Rampage" will feature Dolby VisionTM HDR that dramatically expands the color palette and contrast range and uses dynamic metadata to automatically optimize the picture for every screen, frame by frame.

Also, the 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D discs of "Rampage" will feature a Dolby Atmos® soundtrack remixed specifically for the home theater environment to place and move audio anywhere in the room, including overhead. To experience Dolby Atmos at home, a Dolby Atmos enabled AV receiver and additional speakers are required, or a Dolby Atmos enabled sound bar. Dolby Atmos soundtracks are also fully backward compatible with traditional audio configurations and legacy home entertainment equipment.

Synopsis: In 1993, a breakthrough new technology gave scientists a path to treat incurable diseases through genetic editing. In 2016, due to its potential for misuse, the U.S. Intelligence Community designated genetic editing a "Weapon of Mass Destruction and Proliferation."

Johnson stars as primatologist Davis Okoye, a man who keeps people at a distance but shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, incredibly rare albino silverback gorilla who has been in his care since he rescued the young orphan from poachers. But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry mutates this gentle ape into a raging creature of enormous size.

To make matters worse, it's soon discovered there are other similarly altered animals. As these newly created super creatures tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with discredited geneticist Kate Caldwell (Naomie Harris) to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend.

Rampage surpassed $90 million at the US box office officially and it is on the verge of passing $400 million worldwide, which it should do this coming weekend with it's last opening in Japan (May 18th). While some will said it's US take is nothing to write home about it's the International side that is more impressive, particularly China.

As it has become increasingly obvious films do not have to have huge takes in the US to be viewed as successful, the first Pacific Rim was one that got approved for a sequel based on the $100 plus million it did in China. In the case of Rampage it's China box office is none to shabby, it currently is at nearly $155 million.

To compare only Kong: Skull Island (of the recent giant monster films) was higher with $168 million, and many Marvel films failed to beat it, even Black Panther which hit only about $105 million there. China is the second biggest market behind the US so a films success there is a big deal and helps in a films bottom line and approval for sequels. $400 million is the sort of magic number for success for big blockbusters (depending on budget, promotion), Rampage falls into that category.

Rampage had another strong weekend outing while it finished a close second to surprise hit A Quiet Place it beat to new films. Rampage ($21 million) was only a million behind A Quiet Place and beat both Super Troopers 2 ($14.7 million), and I Feel Pretty ($16.2 million) both in their first weekend.

Rampage's drop of 41% from it's first week was better than many thought, it's US take is at $66.6 million, with it's international total at $216.4 million, for a total of $283 million. While this is positive news for Rampage it's not such good news for Pacific Rim: Uprising, the other recently released monster film.

Rampage has already overtaken PRU even though it open two weeks after it. In the US Rampage is ahead by $8 million, and even though PRU has a $7 million advantage internationally Rampage is ahead by $1 million overall. What also does't help PRU is they had a home field advantage, so to speak, with China (the owners of Legendary Pictures are based there) and after a strong start the box office there has collapsed for the film and it looks like if will fall far short of the first film despite that stronger start.

Critics ratings of the two films weren't far apart but fan ratings were much better for Rampage, which probably has help Rampage to stay strong at the box office (82% for Rampage vs. 47% for PRU via RT). 

Other issue is profit, PRU budget was $150 million while Rampage was only $120 million, even if they finished around the same total take Rampage would have the better bottom line. Legendary/Universal did more promoting of PRU too (via social media, and more merchandise tie-ins) but those didn't seem to help. The possible sequel looks very unlikely at this point for PRU.

Update 4/24:  Actuals have come in and PRU has edged up a little worldwide, slightly ahead of Rampage. Most of the rest posted stayed the same.

Rampage opened at number one at the box office although it wasn't easy because of the surprise hit A Quiet Place. A Quiet Place surprised everyone last week with it's $50 million domestic opening weekend so it wasn't clear if Rampage would be able to beat it. Rampage opened with $34.5 million in the US about $2 million ahead of A Quiet Place,

Rampage also did well overseas with over $114 million. Rampage beat the other recent giant monster film Pacific Rim Uprising in the US by approx $6 million, although PRU gained it back and more overseas where it beat Rampage $122 million to $114 million (approx.). The two films finished very close for their first weekends (150.5 PRU to 148.5 Rampage worldwide) the big question will be can Rampage hold on to more of it audience than PRU did, Avengers Infinity War hits in less than two weeks so it will need to.

​Comparing the two films it does look like Rampage had the stronger competition but that could be argued, but Rampage has gone over better with audiences (81% to PRU 49% approval via Rotten Tomatoes) which can help it. We felt both films were pretty good and it was hard to truly compare them even though they are both giant monster films, they aren't a straight apple to apple type comparison. Hopefully the results will be looked at positively so we will continue to get more kaiju related films.
