ABOUT THIS STATUE
Star Ace is proud to debut a new collection in collaboration with X-Plus –the Wonders of the Wild series, featuring real ancient animals. Sculpted by renowned animal sculptor, Sean Cooper, these polyresin statues feature prehistoric creatures on an environment base with a name plate identifying their scientific name and habitat.

The Concavenator or Concaventor corcovatus was recently discovered in Europe and is the most complete fossil of a mid-size theropod ever found.  This 6-meter-long carnivore is the only known dinosaur to have a hump, and there is evidence that it had feathers.

This polyresin statue of the Concavenator is 32 cm long and 25 cm tall. It has been sculpted by Sean Cooper, who is known for his ultra-realistic depictions of extinct animals, and it has been painted by the Japanese artisans at X-Plus.

The base of the statue features the Concavenator’s natural forest habitat.

The Deluxe set also includes a Concavenator Fossil Replica is sculpted by the Star Ace designer team.  This replica features the dinosaur as first discovered and makes an excellent companion piece to the dynamic statue.  It can be displayed with or without its magnetically attachable nameplate. The Fossil Replica measures 31cm by 19cm and can be hung on a wall or sitting on a tabletop or shelf.

The statue and Fossil Replica are also available separately.

Star Ace was at Wonder Festival Shanghai and had some interesting reveals, as well as showing many of there released and forthcoming figures.

First were new Ray Harryhausen 100 figures including the Gigantic Talos, what we believe are either 25cm or 20cm One Million Years B.C. figures with bases, and new chess piece figures. Talos is a more upright pose static pose but looks very close to the 30cm in coloring, The mid-size One Million Year figures are the Triceratops and Ceratosaurus in battle poses with bases, it is unclear if these are resin or vinyl at this time, the chess pieces include the Ymir, Cyclops, and Gwangi (we believe). All of these announcements are a throwback to what X-Plus has done in the past with different line of Harryhausen figures (here).

Also revealed in person was the revival of the Wonder Of Wild series (which includes real creatures in history), which includes the previously released Coelacanth, as well as the Woolly Mammoth, and the Concavenator, these are listed as part of the Super Vinyl series but it is unclear if the are vinyl completely or partly resin as well as some other figures have been.

We will post more info on these figures as we get the official info on them.

UNIVERSAL MONSTERS ACTION FIGURES COMING IN 2021 FROM NECA!
New line of detailed figures includes collaborations with some of the world’s most iconic horror actors.
Press release
HILLSIDE, NJ, April 19, 2021 – U.S.-based National Entertainment Collectibles Association (NECA) has announced plans for its full line of Universal Monsters action figures. Working closely with Universal Brand Development, LUGOSI LLC, and Chaney Entertainment, the figures will capture the horror world’s most iconic figures in NECA’s long-running Ultimate format.

The first figure (arriving in July) will be Frankenstein’s Monster from Frankenstein (1931), which celebrates its 90th anniversary this year. The sculpt captures Boris Karloff’s poignant portrayal of the misunderstood monster in authentic black-and-white. A color version of the figure will follow.

Subsequent figures set for 2021 will include Lon Chaney Jr. as the Wolf Man from The Wolf Man (1941), Boris Karloff as the titular figure in The Mummy (1932), and Bela Lugosi as the legendary Count in Dracula (1931).

“We are proud to be working with NECA to include Bela Lugosi as Dracula as an Ultimate figure,” said Lynne Lugosi Sparks, CEO of LUGOSI LLC. “NECA’s attention to detail is amazing and we are happy to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Bela Lugosi’s iconic screen performance as Dracula with this figure.”

NECA’s Ultimate format is a favorite among collectors for its complete portrayal of a character with a wide array of alternate heads, hands, and accessories so that many iconic moments from the movie can be recreated. The 5th-panel packaging also allows collectors to remove and replace without damaging the packaging.

“As a lifelong fan of Universal Monsters, this is a dream come true,” said Randy Falk, NECA VP & senior director of product development. “I’ve been collecting Universal Monsters toys since I was a kid. This line aims to create something hyper-realistic and ultra-detailed for people like me who grew up watching these amazing movies and have always longed for definitive versions.”
