The year 2016 marks what would have been the late Forrest J Ackerman's 100th Birthday. Famous Monsters and its comic book publishing imprint, American Gothic Press (AGP), are celebrating Forry's centennial with an original hardcover anthology called TALES FROM THE ACKER-MANSION, to be released in October at our ALIEN CON event in Silicon Valley, CA!

Who Is Forry?
Forrest J Ackerman is the founding father of the iconic Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine (est. 1958). For many people growing up in the '60s and '70s, Famous Monsters was their only insight into the world of filmmaking and special effects, and the magazine holds a very special place in the heart of many genre filmmakers and storytellers, including the likes of Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter, Tim Burton, James Cameron, Guillermo del Toro, and Stephen King.
But Forry's legacy extends far beyond the realm of Famous Monsters magazine. Uncle Forry, as many called him, was a compassionate collector of memorabilia, and allowed all manners of people to visit his home and share his love of imagination. He was the very first cosplayer when he wore a Spaceman costume from THINGS TO COME to the 1939 World Science Fiction convention. He encouraged fandom and a love for science fiction by serving as literary agent to many of the genre greats, including Ray Bradbury and L. Ron Hubbard. He's even credited for inventing the term "Sci-Fi".

Why Comics?
Comic books have always been an important part of Famous Monsters' publishing history. When the magazine was launched in 1958, it shared the Warren magazine imprint with two other popular publications: Creepy and Eerie, both of which came to boast iconic black and white comic book tales by the likes of Frank Frazetta, Alex Toth, Wally Wood, Richard Corben, and Bernie Wrightson. In 1969, Forry and Trina Robbins created Vampirella, who remains one of the most enduring comic book characters of all time. Forry was also one of the very first guests at San Diego Comic-Con and encouraged comic book culture throughout his life. So it seems only fitting that a tribute to "Dr. Acula" include both imaginative stories and breathtaking artwork.

FAMOUS MONSTERS PRESENTS: TALES FROM THE ACKERMANSION is a salute to Forrest J Ackerman, who was instrumental in fostering the careers of so many luminaries, including Ray Bradbury, Ray Harryhausen, Rick Baker, Stephen Spielberg, and many others. Ackerman was also known for enthusiastically encouraging creative pursuits such as conventions and cosplay.
Not only are comic books an integral part of Ackerman’s history and career, the medium allows a truly impressive roster of creators to honor him. Amongst the talent set to participate are filmmaker/composer John Carpenter, science fiction author William F. Nolan, writer Richard Christian Matheson, musician John 5, DC Comics Co-Publisher Dan DiDio, horror writer Joe R. Lansdale, and countless others, including Cullen Bunn, Ray Fawkes, and Buzz Dixon.
Famous Monsters and AGP will be launching a Kickstarter on June 15 to facilitate this once-in-a-century celebration at the first ever Alien Con™ in Silicon Valley on October 28, 2016. American Gothic Press (in association with Famous Monsters of Filmland) announces their next collaboration with international bestselling author Jeremy Robinson. After the success of PROJECT NEMESIS, Robinson’s first novel-turned-comic book, the monster-themed publisher is releasing a second story, adapted from Robinson’s work: ISLAND 731. The comic, penned by Jeremy Robinson with Kane Gilmour, will feature art by Jeff Zornow (GODZILLA: RULERS OF EARTH).

Mass graves and military fortifications dot the island, along with a decades-old laboratory housing the remains of hideous experiments.

Edgar Rice Burroughs’ The Land That Time Forgot comes to comics in July 2016, and will bring fans of the series a brand new chapter in the timeless classic that has thrilled readers for the past century. This original tale will introduce new readers to the savage land of Caspak and remind those who’ve been there before just what they’ve been missing.
Under license from Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc, American Mythology Productions (AM) will launch The Land That Time Forgot as a full-color, 32-page comic book featuring favorite characters from the original series plus some new surprises.
The first issue is featured in the comics section of the April 2016 edition of PREVIEWS from Diamond Comic Distributors, listed under “American Mythology Productions,” on pages #204 - 205. It carries a $3.99 U.S. cover price.
The new adventures take readers back to the mysterious island of Caspak and will be written by comic book veteran Mike Wolfer (Friday the 13th, Night of the Living Dead), illustrated by Giancarlo Caracuzzo (Cable, Gorilla Man), with cover art by Wolfer and Chris Scalf (Star Wars), and colors by Ceci de la Cruz.
“This is not an adaptation, or a reimagining. It remains absolutely faithful to the source material, with a new twist,” said Michael Bornstein, Publisher of American Mythology. “Each creator participating in the program is a huge fan of the series, which is a direct sequel to the novels, and it shows in their work.”
“One hundred years ago, shipbuilder Bowen Tyler, a handful of British allies, and the crew of the German U-33 submarine were lost at sea, drifting near the Antarctic Circle. What they discovered was something that defied time, and all of known science: the island of Caspak! Hidden inside impregnable rock walls lay a prehistoric world, filled with terrifying creatures, man-eaters from every era of time, and races of savage, murderous primitives from each rung of the evolutionary ladder. Inexplicably, the island was never again found, and the stories of the survivors of Caspak were considered fantasy,” said Mike Wolfer.
