GODZILLA: TOKYO SOS ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK
For the first time ever on vinyl, GODZILLA: TOKYO SOS attacks your stereo! Housed inside a gloss laminate gatefold sleeve featuring a double LP with a screenprinted side D.

As always, all new Record Shop releases go on sale Wednesdays at 12 NOON CST.

The Kiryu saga concludes! Three Kaiju legends come together in a final battle in GODZILLA: TOKYO S.O.S. Godzilla rages against Tokyo while Kiryu (aka Mechagodzilla) is on standby as politicians decide whether or not to relaunch. Meanwhile, Mothra and the Shobijin show up at the home of Chujo, an ex-soldier who met Mothra in the 1960s. The Shobijin ask for the Prime Minister to take Kiryu to the sea, so the bones of the original Godzilla it's built on can be laid to rest, but Japan doesn't believe Mothra will fight in Kiryu's place. All of this sets the stage for a titanic battle between Godzilla, Mothra and Kiryu that will decide the future safety of Japan. As with its prequel GODZILLA AGAINST MECHAGODZILLA, GODZILLA: TOKYO S.O.S. was scored by Michiru Oshima, who returned with an equally-brilliant score to shake the pillars of heaven. Oshima not only brings back her thrilling themes for Godzilla and Kiryu but also introduces a wonderfully versatile theme for Mothra, stunning in ethereal and melancholic modes, and of course, ‘Mothra's Song’ appears. There's a genuine emotional resonance to Oshima's music amongst the fire and the fury, with beautiful choral material homaging Akira Ifukube's original music from 1954. It's a triumph from Michiru Oshima and a thrilling musical climax to the great Kiryu saga! - Charlie Brigden

GODZILLA: TOKYO SOS Original Motion Picture Soundtrack 2XLP. Music by Michiru Oshima. Artwork by Francesco Francavilla. Pressed on Mondo Exclusive 2x 140 Gram Shobijin Vinyl. Featuring a Screenprinted D Side. Also Available on 2x 140 Gram Eco Vinyl. Estimated Shipping August 2023. Ships Worldwide (except Japan). $45

NEW RELEASES:
GODZILLA AGAINST MECHAGODZILLA - ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK 2XLP
Terror in Tokyo! Godzilla is back and is determined to cause as much damage as possible in GODZILLA AGAINST MECHAGODZILLA. After the Big G delivers a crippling blow to the JXSDF (Japanese Xenomorph Self-Defence Force), the government decides to build a new weapon to defeat Godzilla. Their solution: Kiryu, aka Mechagodzilla, a metal monster packed with all the firepower needed to put Godzilla down. But things go awry when Kiryu malfunctions and turns on the JXSDF, thanks to its use of the original Godzilla's DNA. Can they get back control and put an end to the Big G?

Selected to score GODZILLA AGAINST MECHAGODZILLA was Michiru Ōshima (GODZILLA VS MEGAGUIRUS, STAR WARS: VISIONS), who brought an exciting and heroic musical aesthetic to the film. Employing the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, Ōshima's music sounds as enormous and powerful as the kaiju themselves, with a new menacing theme for Godzilla that uses the lower registers to bring across his immense force. In contrast, Ōshima's theme for Kiryu uses high brass for an almost superheroic feel, with both themes working beautifully in counterpoint to each other when the two titans have their rumble. As scary as it is thrilling, Michiru Ōshima's GODZILLA AGAINST MECHAGODZILLA is one of the most significant scores to emerge from the hallowed halls of Toho.
- Charlie Brigden

GODZILLA AGAINST MECHAGODZILLA - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack 2XLP. Music by Michiru Ōshima. Artwork by Luke Preece. Numbered edition of 2000 featuring 2 x 140g LPs housed inside a gatefold sleeve with a screen-printed D side. $45

GODZILLA VS. KING GHIDORAH - ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK LP
Japan faces its ultimate doom as Godzilla's deadliest foe is back in GODZILLA VS KING GHIDORAH. Visitors from the 23rd Century arrive with grave news; Godzilla will destroy Japan in the future. Time travelling back to when Godzilla was born, they prevent the birth, but something goes wrong, as when they come back to the present day, the monstrous three-headed King Ghidorah is on the rampage instead. A secret conspiracy is soon unmasked, and only one outcome will save the country: Godzilla must return!

GODZILLA VS KING GHIDORAH saw the return of legendary composer Akira Ifukube to the series, his first since 1975's TERROR OF MECHAGODZILLA. He showed no sign of slowing down, providing a thrilling and muscular score dominated by the presence of the two headliners. Godzilla's theme and fanfare are presented beautifully by Ifukube, along with the terrifying material for Ghidorah. The composer also wonderfully integrates earlier music from RODAN and KING KONG VS GODZILLA that - along with his terrific new music - results in a musical monster throw-down for the ages. No one knew Godzilla better than Akira Ifukube, and GODZILLA VS KING GHIDORAH proves it.
-Charlie Brigden

GODZILLA VS. KING GHIDORAH - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack LP. Music by Akira Ifukube. Artwork by Greg Ruth. Numbered edition of 1000 featuring 1 x 140g LP pressed on Three Headed Vinyl housed inside a gatefold. $35

"Have you ever been walking in a forest and stopped to try some fruit growing on a tree or bush? You may think twice after MATANGO, a tense psychological horror from Ishirō Honda, director of GODZILLA (1954). Released in Japan in 1963 to immediate controversy over the similarity of the makeup effects to the victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, MATANGO is about a group of men and women driven to violence and murder after being shipwrecked, only for them to fall victim to the horrifying mutated monsters that inhabit the island they discover.

Released overseas under the titles ATTACK OF THE MUSHROOM PEOPLE and FUNGUS OF TERROR, MATANGO's eerie musical score was composed by Japanese classical composer Sadao Bekku and is as hypnotic and surreal as the film's shocking climactic sequences. Bekku's music takes much of its inspiration from jazz, from the irreverence of a cue for the shipwrecking storm to the haunting trumpet that hails the first sight of the desolate island. Much of the score is about form, colour and texture, and it often offers dissonant patches that wind up the tension between the men and women and snakey woodwinds that highlight the insidious nature of the island's true inhabitants. MATANGO is a masterpiece."
-Charlie Brigden

"Earth's greatest defender is back! Join Mothra Leo, the latest legendarily humongous member of the Heterocetera family, as he carries on the legacy in REBIRTH OF MOTHRA II, directed by Kunio Miyoshi with a story by the great GODZILLA creator Tomoyuki Tanaka. An ancient sea monster named Dagahra awakens due to mass ocean pollution and Leo needs to stop it, but it can only do so with a trio of children who discover the ancient sunken civilisation of Nilai-Kanai, who created the monstrous aqua-kaiju. Also in the mix is the Mothra Twins' evil sister Belvera and the adorable little creature Ghogo, who befriends the children and acts as their protector. Returning to score REBIRTH OF MOTHRA II is Toshiyuki Watanabe, who brings back the exciting and lyrical orchestral style he established in the previous film, starting with a thrilling heroic theme for Mothra Leo that encaptures the nobility of the kaiju and his representation of nature. A threatening brass march for Dagahra expresses his vicious might, while a gorgeously ethereal and somewhat melancholic theme represents Princess Yuma and the ancient kingdom of the Nilai-Kanai. But the best is saved for last, a beautifully versatile theme for the creature Ghogo that encapsulates what Mothra as a character is all about: loving and protecting the Earth."

"Mothra 3 The trilogy ends! Everyone's favourite Lepidopteran defender of Earth returns for a humongous climactic battle in REBIRTH OF MOTHRA III, this time fighting the Toho universe's greatest villain: King Ghidorah! Directed by Okihiro Yoneda, the picture sees Mothra Leo and the Elias sisters join forces with a young boy after Ghidorah kidnaps hundreds of children so he can siphon off their power. For Mothra to defeat his most ferocious foe, he must travel to the past while all three sisters must make up and join their special daggers together to give Mothra the ultimate power and defeat Ghidorah.

As with the previous two films, scoring REBIRTH OF MOTHRA III is Toshiyuki Watanabe, who once again brings his powerful orchestral style to the series. His music soars with pounding drums and heroic brass as Mothra travels to the Cretaceous period to attack Ghidorah in his younger form before transforming into the beautifully lyrical and ethereal tones of 'Haora Mothra' as the Elias transfer their power to Mothra. Ghidorah himself is given a suitably malevolent motif for low brass, but Watanabe brings back his triumphant Mothra theme in spectacular fashion as our hero is reborn as Armor Mothra, bringing a sensational musical end to the trilogy. Mothra oh Mothra, our guardian angel!"
