Star Ace has officially announced the Kong: Skull Island Version 2.0 figure, like the first one there will be two versions a regular and deluxe. The deluxe features a propeller and chain in his hand and comes with a base, which is slightly different in style from the base the first version came with.
From Star Ace - “All hail the King.” Kong: Skull Island introduced us to the Monsterverse that will soon see the king of all monsters, Godzilla, take on the king of Skull Island – Kong. This new 32cm vinyl figure shows the protector of Skull Island in a defiant roar, mouth open wide and arms outstretched. This piece is meticulously sculpted to show the rage in his face, all the detail of his hair and the battle scars across his chest. He is painted by hand to bring out all the incredible nuances of his expression and recreate the realism that makes the figure look alive. A limited-edition Deluxe Version recreates a famous scene in the movie where Kong swings a ship’s propeller on a chain at an attacking monster. The Deluxe Version features a diorama base with the remnants of a ship, and Kong has a chain around his arm and is holding a ship’s propeller, getting ready to heave it at the Skullcrawler. Shipping in Dec 2019, this is the new Kong you’ve been waiting for! Dimensions: Figure: 35cm wide, 15cm deep, and 32cm tall. Base: 20cm deep, 20cm wide, and 9.5cm tall (to top of boat). Godzilla has a presence at SDCC despite Warner Bros./Legendary not being there, besides the announced Toho booth there was a presence at the Famous Monsters booth, NECA booth, and Tamashii booth. The Famous Monsters booth, along with Summit Kaiju, featured a number of X-Plus figures, on display were the Gigantic Godzilla 2019, Kong V2 Fighting Version (as well as V1, 4th Qtr release), and new reveals of DefoReal Ghidorah 2019 (Dec 2019 release), DefoReal Rodan 2019 (placeholder image), and DefoReal Mothra 2019 (placeholder image). NECA had a minimal Godzilla section with packages for King of the Monsters figures and some older ones, what was interesting was the two besides the recent 1956 Poster version, a 1954 in deluxe package and 1984/5 in deluxe package, it is unclear what these are (tag was hidden). Tamashii display wasn't anything new but feature their King of the Monster figures and the Godzilla statue that has been making the rounds. Toho's booth didn't have much that we haven't already known about an interesting note is the box of the Godzilla 1954 exclusive, the top of the box lists years, 1954, 1968, 1974, 2000, and 2020. It's the 2020 that has us and fans intrigued since there has been no official announcements of a 2020 figure or if this is Legendary's or a new Toho version. More updates from SDCC as we get it on all this and possibly more. Pics from Famous Monsters/Summit Kaiju, Toyark, NECA, Tamashii, Toho, CriterionCast, and Kaiju Kingdom Podcast.
Update: NECA's display has been updated (pic below) with other images/packages, and the 1964 figure as well as a 1984/5 that appears to be slightly updated, it is unclear if that figure will be a re-release or a new version. Also a Fire Godzilla 2019 is being released as well down the line. X-Plus showed a while back there Gigantic Godzilla 2019 figure prototype now we have what appears to be the final product (standard version). Dengeki Hobby as well as a few other sites have posted the pics and info, though it is not up on the X-Plus site yet. The figure stands 47cm tall (approx 18.5 inches) and is 97cm in length (approx 38 inches), it will retail for 66,000 yen and will be released in Nov 2019. It hints that the Ric version will have "emissions" dorsal fins (possibly clear blue or painted blue). More info on official release and Ric versions as we get it.
This is now up on the X-Plus site but it is still the standard version which must be ordered from third party dealers, It suggests the Ric will come later. X-Plus is releasing the DefoReal Godzilla 2019 figure, featuring Godzilla posed shooting his atomic blast into the air. This figure features a light up gimmick to illuminate his blast, it stands 25cm tall and is 15cm in length, and will retail for 9,900 yen ($81.11 on the US site). Pre-order should start soon, also the release date was not announced yet, we will update it once available.
Star Ace/X-Plus is releasing the Kong: Skull Island Kong Vs. Octopus Diorama (Kong 2.0). This diorama stands 6.2 inches tall and will retail for approx $80 depending on the retailer. Checkout the info and pics from Star Ace below.
From Star Ace Toys. The giant ape Kong is the guardian of Skull Island and protects the inhabitants from other giant monsters. In this DefoReal diorama the mighty Kong wrestles with a huge octopus (mire squid) living in a Skull Island lake! Standing 6.3" tall, this soft vinyl statue features an accurately sculpted, oversized head on a figure in a dynamic fighting scene. In Shops: Nov 27, 2019 Star Ace (X-Plus) is releasing the Kong and Skull Crawler DefoReal figures, which were shown at Summer Wonder Festival. The surprise is that they are being released as a set as well as individual figures. The separate figures don't appear to be any different, with the exception of Kong's left arm and possibly the Skull Crawler's tail, to allow it to stand. The set is 22.5cm tall, Kong is 15cm by himself, and the Skull Crawler is 16cm by itself, all come with logo bases. The figures will be $55 for Kong, $60 for the Skull Crawler, and the set will be about $110, those prices may vary slightly per retailer. Pre-orders are starting now at a number of retailers with release scheduled for 4th Quarter 2018.
Update: these are now available on the X-Plus Japanese site.
Star Ace is releasing the Kong: Skull Island Vinyl Statue in both a standard and deluxe versions. This is the same figure shown by X-Plus in the past (Star Ace and X-Plus are part of the same company). Updated: The deluxe adds a base, damaged helicopter, and a closed left hand that can hold the helicopter (standard has open left hand, note there is only one hand per version) and is limited to 800. It stands 32cm tall for the standard (approx 12.5 inches) the deluxe is 34cm tall (with the base, almost 14 inches), the standard will retail for approx $139.99, the deluxe is $179.99, both will be released around July 2018. Kong is available from Diamond (comic shops, Flossie's, and others), as well as Sideshow (links below). Some retailers are offering discounts.
Revealed at the Star Ace booth at NYCC is a Kong Skull Island prototype it appears to be a painted version of the prototype shown at Wonder Festival by X-Plus. While this seems odd it maybe because X-Plus doesn't have a separate booth there. The prototype looks awesome hopefully the final figure will look as good. More info as we get it pics via ToyArk and Kyle Yount.
