It’s a snake! It’s a flying lizard! It’s… both?
When we last left Hawkins and Joliet, they were about to become flying-snake food in the jungle of an unknown Pacific island. The creatures seem to be protecting their territory… and when Hawkins and Joliet make it back to the beach, their shipmate has turned one dug-up skeleton into a whole army of bones! The mysteries surrounding the island hit their peak when the Magellan is attacked by a shadowy creature too big to be human. It turns out that the flying snakes are just the beginning.

In Superman #8 there are a numbers of things that look to show that DC Comics is including Darwyn Cooke's acclaimed retro-style “DC: The New Frontier” from 2004 as part of the current DC Universe. Part of this is the includes Dinosaur Island, the South Pacific island in the DC Comics Universe populated with countless prehistoric-type creatures first introduced over half a century ago and was utilized as a locale in Darwyn's New Frontier.

"Possible spoilers"

After Superman and company survives an attack by a gigantic undersea monster, they survey the island only to discover wrecked WWII-vintage military vehicles.

Realizing they’ve been sent to a location without understanding why, they all attempt to fly away from the island only to be attacked again this time by a flock of pterodactyl-like dinos.

They fall to the ground, only to have the group of flying predators mysteriously fly away, apparently frightened for unknown reasons.

Within the skeletal remains of a Tyrannosaurus Rex, they find human remains, and discover some cryptic writings on a cave wall, that hint at the New Frontier storyline.
Answers, and more dinos, might be forthcoming in the second part of “Escape From Dinosaur Island” in “Superman” #9.

Solicit:
"RETURN TO DINOSAUR ISLAND" part one! Father and Superson work on a science assignment with bizarre consequences that transports the pair along with Krypto to Dinosaur Island! Now, amid relics of World War II, Superman tries to keep Jon from the jaws of prehistoric predators! Worse, Kal-El can't find a way to fly off the Island.

This isn't the first kaiju like creature in DC Comic's new Rebirth Universe like this one here.
