Press release
IDW Publishing has revealed the covers for THE HORROR OF GODZILLA #2, giving readers an early look at the next chapter of its new four-issue Godzilla miniseries.
THE HORROR OF GODZILLA #2 will feature Cover A by series artist Tristan Jones, a Cover B Movie Homage Variant by Jake Smith, and a Variant RI 1:10 Black & White cover by Jones. The issue goes on sale September 16, 2026.
Written by Ethan S. Parker and Griffin Sheridan, with art by Tristan Jones, THE HORROR OF GODZILLA takes readers back to Godzilla’s first attack while exploring the origins of Godzilla’s Kai-Sei Universe. While longtime Kai-Sei readers will find connections to the larger story, the series is built to stand on its own. No prior reading is necessary, making this a clear entry point for anyone picking up a Godzilla comic for the first time.
The newly revealed covers for issue #2 showcase a story where Godzilla’s arrival is seen not as a distant spectacle, but as a terrifying event unfolding at street level. Cover A by Jones connects directly to the series’ core visual identity, while the Black & White variant highlights his linework and texture. Jake Smith’s Movie Homage Variant adds another layer, tying the issue to the long visual history of Godzilla while keeping the focus on this new chapter.
THE HORROR OF GODZILLA #2 continues the story of Godzilla’s first attack while digging deeper into the lives of the two scientists who pushed their experiments too far. As the destruction continues, the issue raises questions of responsibility, guilt, and what people will do when forced to face the consequences of their own actions.
For co-writer Ethan S. Parker, the series is both a major Godzilla story and a deeply personal creative project. “THE HORROR OF GODZILLA is, through and through, a passion project for this entire team,” Parker says. “As writers, Griffin and I are getting to build on some of the most iconic concepts in storytelling, imagining a new beginning for a universe where monsters reign supreme. Then we have the unbelievable pleasure of seeing Tristan Jones bring it all to life like no one else could, with a cinematic sense of scale that looks like the future of comics. While this book is chock-full of easter eggs and mysteries that set up countless other stories in Godzilla's Kai-Sei Universe, it's also a complete standalone, a pulse-pounding horror tale where the killer is a walking mountain. Give it a read and witness the day everything changed.”
Co-writer Griffin Sheridan says the goal is to make the series work both as part of the Kai-Sei Era and as a Godzilla story that stands on its own. “While we wanted to make sure that this was an excellent comic book first and foremost, and while it is part of the larger Kai-Sei story, we also hope that this goes down as an evergreen Godzilla story, across all mediums, regardless of the continuity it exists within,” Sheridan says. “If you have been following along with the Kai-Sei Era, this will provide some great narrative bedrock for everything that comes later. If you are a Godzilla fan, but haven't read any of the Kai-Sei books, hell, if you haven't seen a Godzilla film since 1954, we wrote this for you, too.”
Artist Tristan Jones brings that idea to the page with a focus on scale, terror, and atmosphere. He describes Godzilla as “the most iconic creation of the 20th century,” a character able to capture awe and imagination across eras, languages, and audiences. For Jones, the story by Parker and Sheridan reaches into what makes Godzilla so frightening while exploring parts of a world shaped by Godzilla that are not often brought to the foreground.
THE HORROR OF GODZILLA #1 goes on sale July 29, with pre-orders due Monday, June 15. Pre-ordering is the only way to guarantee a physical copy. THE HORROR OF GODZILLA #2 follows on September 16, 2026, with Cover A by Tristan Jones, Cover B Movie Homage Variant by Jake Smith, and Variant RI 1:10 Black & White by Jones.
Check out the newly revealed covers and get ready for THE HORROR OF GODZILLA as IDW takes readers back to the first attack, where the future of Godzilla’s Kai-Sei Universe begins!

Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre Presents: Godzilla’s The Odyssey
- Published on
Press release
Godzilla’s journey through the literary canon continues this summer with Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre Presents: Godzilla’s The Odyssey, a new oversized standalone comic arriving June 10, 2026. The release is part of IDW’s growing Monsterpiece Theatre line, which imagines the King of the Monsters stepping directly into famous works of literature. The first entry Romeo & Juliet and Godzilla (on sale April 8, 2026) will set the precedent, reworking Shakespeare’s tragedy into a kaiju-scale clash of rival families in Verona.
The new issue draws inspiration from Homer’s legendary epic The Odyssey, widely regarded as one of the greatest adventure stories ever written. Written by Frank Tieri with artwork by Ilias Kyriazis, the comic imagines what might happen if Odysseus’ already perilous voyage home became even more daunting. Instead of storms, sirens, and cyclopes, the gods unleash monsters greater than the titans themselves. Zeus even sends the mightiest creature of all to aid the wandering king on his odyssey. As Homer himself might say, “Of all creatures that breathe and move upon the earth, nothing is bred that is stronger than Godzilla.”
Writer Frank Tieri says the goal was to lean fully into both the epic scale of Homer’s story and the monster-filled chaos of the Godzilla universe.
“The Odyssey is hands down one of the greatest stories ever told in history. I mean, it has everything... the Trojan War, vicious sea monsters, angry gods, enchanting sirens, devious witches, a cyclops with vision problems, etc. But there is one thing clearly missing... and that's Godzilla. After all, Godzilla makes every story better, even this one, am I right?
In addition to the King of the Monsters, expect to see more kaiju than you can shake a Trojan horse at (or a Trojan Godzilla at, in this case). Part of the fun of this book was jamming as many familiar faces from the Godzilla-verse in there, so plan on seeing Rodan, Biollante, King Ghidorah, Mothra, Destoroyah, and plenty of others you won't see coming.
Toss out everything you know about Greek history and come join us on our GODyssey, if you will. Trust me... you won't be sorry. (Though Odysseus might be, granted.)”
The issue also continues Tom Scioli’s ongoing backup feature Godzilla vs. Robin Hood, presented here as the second installment of the serialized story. The backup expands the Monsterpiece Theatre concept by pairing Godzilla with another legendary figure, giving Sherwood Forest its own kaiju-powered epic adventure.
Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre Presents: Godzilla’s The Odyssey runs 48 pages and will retail for $7.99 USD. Several cover options will be available for collectors, including Cover A by Tom Scioli, Cover B by Ilias Kyriazis, Cover C by Pablo Tunica, and a 1:10 incentive variant illustrated by Christian Meesey.
The comic goes on sale June 10, 2026. Pre-orders are due by May 4, which is the final opportunity to guarantee a copy through participating comic shops.

IDW’s BLOCKBUSTER CROSSOVER EVENT BEGINS THIS SUMMER
LOS ANGELES, CA (February 23, 2026) – The fan-favorite worlds of SONIC THE HEDGEHOG™ and GODZILLA are set to collide for the first time ever in comic books.
Speeding and stomping into comic shops this summer is SONIC X GODZILLA #1, a fun-filled celebration of both beloved franchises by writer Nick Marino (GODZILLA RIVALS) and artist Jack Lawrence (SONIC THE HEDGEHOG).
When the King of the Monsters and other iconic kaiju mysteriously arrive in the Blue Blur’s world, the brilliant and evil Dr. Eggman will try to harness the power of the kaiju for his own nefarious goals. Only Sonic and his amazing allies - including Amy, Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow - will be able to stand in the villain’s way and try to send the giant monsters back to their own world.
"I'm doing my best to cook up fun scenarios for Jack to draw, and then I'm making sure my panel counts leave enough room for him to properly play around with the fantastic spectacle that this crossover deserves," commented Marino. "I'm fascinated by the scale of life, how we perceive lifeforms differently from bacteria to planet-wide ecosystems, from micro to macro. This particular character combination allows me to explore that in a fun way, and it's been really satisfying. I hope our readers agree that the result is a cohesive mix of these two visual focuses– small speedsters and massive monsters– that delivers the best of both worlds!"
“Sonic and Godzilla are such fun, action-packed franchises on their own, so it was a natural fit to pair them together, and it’s been a treat seeing the story and art come together,” added IDW’s Sonic Editorial. “We know how long fans have been asking for this crossover, and we wanted to make sure it’ll be worth the wait, so we’re going big: A mysterious portal, a massive kaiju attack on Sonic's World that inspires a new scheme by Dr. Eggman to take over the world, Knuckles and Shadow joining alongside Amy and Tails... and of course, plenty of Sonic and Godzilla!
An undertaking like this isn’t possible alone, though, so a huge thanks to our partners at SEGA® and Toho, who have been there every step of the way with guidance and support, and to our fantastic creative team of Nick Marino, Jack Lawrence, and colorist Reggie Graham, who have brought this story to life. It’s been a blast working on this series, and we’re so excited to finally be able to share it with fans!”

Travel through history with Godzilla in this trilogy of graphic novels full of action, adventure, and intrigue! From the 1500s to the 1950s, Godzilla battles from the age of discovery to the age of UFOs!
This omnibus collects the complete trilogy of Godzilla: Here There Be Dragons, Godzilla: Here There Be Dragons II—Sons of Giants, and Godzilla: Here There Be Aliens by writer Frank Tieri and artists Inaki Miranda and Angel Hernandez for the first time.
Before humanity had successfully traveled the entire globe, it was believed that monsters ruled the oceans just beyond the horizon. “Here there be dragons…” was written on maps to denote the areas people dared not go. That is, until Sir Francis Drake circumnavigated the seas, visiting foreign lands and collecting treasure. That’s what history tells us, at least, but history does not have the full tale. Monsters did lurk yonder, living on an island that still doesn’t appear on any map, and among them was the king of them all…Godzilla!
Then, in the sequel, discover the shadowy society that controls the secrets of the kaiju, from ancient Rome to colonial America and beyond. Who are the members of this Illuminati-esque cult, known only as the Sons of Giants, and what is their mission? More importantly, how have they been pulling the strings of every major kaiju encounter since the dawn of time?
In the finale, it’s the middle of the 20th century, and Americans everywhere are terrified of the strange lights hovering above them in the night sky…and they should be. These UFOs are actually the Xilien invasion force! Revealed to have already been on Earth during the events of Sons of Giants, the Xiliens have been attempting to destabilize the planet with the help of kaiju from outer space. With the aliens’ claws deep inside the U.S. government, will our rogue operatives manage to band together to save humanity?
Read all three graphic novels in one collection for the first time!
