Godzilla Kai-Sei Era Trade Paperback Solicitations From IDW Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre Presents: Godzilla’s The Odyssey The King of the Monsters Meets Greek Mythology in Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre Presents: Godzilla’s The Odyssey
Press release Godzilla’s journey through the literary canon continues this summer with Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre Presents: Godzilla’s The Odyssey, a new oversized standalone comic arriving June 10, 2026. The release is part of IDW’s growing Monsterpiece Theatre line, which imagines the King of the Monsters stepping directly into famous works of literature. The first entry Romeo & Juliet and Godzilla (on sale April 8, 2026) will set the precedent, reworking Shakespeare’s tragedy into a kaiju-scale clash of rival families in Verona. The new issue draws inspiration from Homer’s legendary epic The Odyssey, widely regarded as one of the greatest adventure stories ever written. Written by Frank Tieri with artwork by Ilias Kyriazis, the comic imagines what might happen if Odysseus’ already perilous voyage home became even more daunting. Instead of storms, sirens, and cyclopes, the gods unleash monsters greater than the titans themselves. Zeus even sends the mightiest creature of all to aid the wandering king on his odyssey. As Homer himself might say, “Of all creatures that breathe and move upon the earth, nothing is bred that is stronger than Godzilla.” Writer Frank Tieri says the goal was to lean fully into both the epic scale of Homer’s story and the monster-filled chaos of the Godzilla universe. “The Odyssey is hands down one of the greatest stories ever told in history. I mean, it has everything... the Trojan War, vicious sea monsters, angry gods, enchanting sirens, devious witches, a cyclops with vision problems, etc. But there is one thing clearly missing... and that's Godzilla. After all, Godzilla makes every story better, even this one, am I right? In addition to the King of the Monsters, expect to see more kaiju than you can shake a Trojan horse at (or a Trojan Godzilla at, in this case). Part of the fun of this book was jamming as many familiar faces from the Godzilla-verse in there, so plan on seeing Rodan, Biollante, King Ghidorah, Mothra, Destoroyah, and plenty of others you won't see coming. Toss out everything you know about Greek history and come join us on our GODyssey, if you will. Trust me... you won't be sorry. (Though Odysseus might be, granted.)” The issue also continues Tom Scioli’s ongoing backup feature Godzilla vs. Robin Hood, presented here as the second installment of the serialized story. The backup expands the Monsterpiece Theatre concept by pairing Godzilla with another legendary figure, giving Sherwood Forest its own kaiju-powered epic adventure. Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre Presents: Godzilla’s The Odyssey runs 48 pages and will retail for $7.99 USD. Several cover options will be available for collectors, including Cover A by Tom Scioli, Cover B by Ilias Kyriazis, Cover C by Pablo Tunica, and a 1:10 incentive variant illustrated by Christian Meesey. The comic goes on sale June 10, 2026. Pre-orders are due by May 4, which is the final opportunity to guarantee a copy through participating comic shops. Check out all four cover variants of the comic and a preview. ‘SONIC THE HEDGEHOG X GODZILLA’ BRINGS THE POP CULTURE FRANCHISES TOGETHER FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER IN COMICS IDW’s BLOCKBUSTER CROSSOVER EVENT BEGINS THIS SUMMER Press release
LOS ANGELES, CA (February 23, 2026) – The fan-favorite worlds of SONIC THE HEDGEHOG™ and GODZILLA are set to collide for the first time ever in comic books. Speeding and stomping into comic shops this summer is SONIC X GODZILLA #1, a fun-filled celebration of both beloved franchises by writer Nick Marino (GODZILLA RIVALS) and artist Jack Lawrence (SONIC THE HEDGEHOG). When the King of the Monsters and other iconic kaiju mysteriously arrive in the Blue Blur’s world, the brilliant and evil Dr. Eggman will try to harness the power of the kaiju for his own nefarious goals. Only Sonic and his amazing allies - including Amy, Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow - will be able to stand in the villain’s way and try to send the giant monsters back to their own world. "I'm doing my best to cook up fun scenarios for Jack to draw, and then I'm making sure my panel counts leave enough room for him to properly play around with the fantastic spectacle that this crossover deserves," commented Marino. "I'm fascinated by the scale of life, how we perceive lifeforms differently from bacteria to planet-wide ecosystems, from micro to macro. This particular character combination allows me to explore that in a fun way, and it's been really satisfying. I hope our readers agree that the result is a cohesive mix of these two visual focuses– small speedsters and massive monsters– that delivers the best of both worlds!" “Sonic and Godzilla are such fun, action-packed franchises on their own, so it was a natural fit to pair them together, and it’s been a treat seeing the story and art come together,” added IDW’s Sonic Editorial. “We know how long fans have been asking for this crossover, and we wanted to make sure it’ll be worth the wait, so we’re going big: A mysterious portal, a massive kaiju attack on Sonic's World that inspires a new scheme by Dr. Eggman to take over the world, Knuckles and Shadow joining alongside Amy and Tails... and of course, plenty of Sonic and Godzilla! An undertaking like this isn’t possible alone, though, so a huge thanks to our partners at SEGA® and Toho, who have been there every step of the way with guidance and support, and to our fantastic creative team of Nick Marino, Jack Lawrence, and colorist Reggie Graham, who have brought this story to life. It’s been a blast working on this series, and we’re so excited to finally be able to share it with fans!” Contact a comic shop near you to pre-order SONIC THE HEDGEHOG X GODZILLA #1 and other SONIC THE HEDGEHOG and GODZILLA comics from IDW - it’s the best way for fans to guarantee their copies! Godzilla: Here There Be Complete Collection Author Frank Tieri Illustrated by Inaki Miranda, Angel Hernandez Paperback $39.99 US On sale Oct 27, 2026 376 Pages Rated T Travel through history with Godzilla in this trilogy of graphic novels full of action, adventure, and intrigue! This omnibus collects the complete trilogy of Godzilla: Here There Be Dragons, Godzilla: Here There Be Dragons II—Sons of Giants, and Godzilla: Here There Be Aliens by writer Frank Tieri and artists Inaki Miranda and Angel Hernandez for the first time. Before humanity had successfully traveled the entire globe, it was believed that monsters ruled the oceans just beyond the horizon. “Here there be dragons…” was written on maps to denote the areas people dared not go. That is, until Sir Francis Drake circumnavigated the seas, visiting foreign lands and collecting treasure. That’s what history tells us, at least, but history does not have the full tale. Monsters did lurk yonder, living on an island that still doesn’t appear on any map, and among them was the king of them all…Godzilla! Then, in the sequel, discover the shadowy society that controls the secrets of the kaiju, from ancient Rome to colonial America and beyond. Who are the members of this Illuminati-esque cult, known only as the Sons of Giants, and what is their mission? More importantly, how have they been pulling the strings of every major kaiju encounter since the dawn of time? In the finale, it’s the middle of the 20th century, and Americans everywhere are terrified of the strange lights hovering above them in the night sky…and they should be. These UFOs are actually the Xilien invasion force! Revealed to have already been on Earth during the events of Sons of Giants, the Xiliens have been attempting to destabilize the planet with the help of kaiju from outer space. With the aliens’ claws deep inside the U.S. government, will our rogue operatives manage to band together to save humanity? Read all three graphic novels in one collection for the first time! LOS ANGELES, CA (February 16, 2026) – The shocking fear and astonishing devastation behind Godzilla’s first attack on humanity will be unleashed this summer. Smashing into comics shops this July is the debut issue of the most spine-chilling kaiju comic book event you’ll ever experience: THE HORROR OF GODZILLA from Eisner-nominated co-writers Ethan S. Parker & Griffin Sheridan (Marvel Zombies: Red Band, GODZILLA: ESCAPE THE DEADZONE) and acclaimed horror artist Tristan Jones (EVENT HORIZON: DARK DESCENT, Aliens: Defiance). Set in 1954 Japan, witness the sheer terror behind Godzilla’s first horrifying onslaught on the human race and how the power behind its Kai-Sei energy has a frightening and transformative impact on humans exposed to the grim blasts. “THE HORROR OF GODZILLA is for fans of Godzilla Minus One, Shin Godzilla, and Godzilla ‘54,” said editor Jake Williams. “It's a terrifying look at the Kai-Sei era's first Godzilla attack. It grabs the reader and places them on the ground in the middle of the most petrifying night in human history… the arrival of Godzilla. Through the power of Tristan Jones' visceral art style, this is the first Godzilla comic we've released that goes 100% in on horror. It very well might become the best Godzilla comic ever made… it's certainly the scariest.” "Godzilla's been such a huge part of my life as far back as I can remember, and as someone that had Godzilla 1985 on near permanent loan from our local video store, and hounding my local bootlegger every day on the walk home from high school for the original Japanese cut, I'm genuinely hard-pressed to think of anything I've been this excited about in my career,” commented Jones. “As a storyteller that's become something of a fixture in the horror genre, it's a genuine honor and a thrill to work with Griffin and Ethan (and our incredible editor Jake) on a Godzilla story that leans so hard into my favorite visuals and even harder into things I always wished the films would. It's a huge departure from what I've been known for so far and everyone's given me incredible space to both try new things, and bring visuals to comics I'd never had a proper chance to before." “The first year of the Kai-Sei Era found us in a world — a galaxy, even — steeped in kaiju, as we felt that was the best starting point for this universe,” stated Parker & Sheridan. “But now is the perfect moment to go back to the narrative bedrock, the genesis of our tale: humanity’s very first meeting with Godzilla. To not only be asked to tell this crucial chapter of the Kai-Sei saga, but also to make it as wild and horrific as possible… Oh, and Tristan Jones is going to draw it?! We’re beyond honored and cannot wait to share this one with readers.” Contact a comic shop near you to pre-order THE HORROR OF GODZILLA #1 and other GODZILLA comics from IDW. Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre Presents Launches in April With Romeo & Juliet And Godzilla1/15/2026 Press release
Godzilla is returning to the classics with Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre Presents, a new four-issue line of oversized one-shot comics that drops the King of the Monsters into famous works of literature. The project follows the strong reception of Tom Scioli’s original Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre limited series, which is now available in a collected edition. Scioli says the core idea has always been that “Godzilla has been with us for centuries, maybe millennia, hiding in the fringes of history and literature,” calling it a concept that is “full of possibilities.” The upcoming release, Romeo & Juliet and Godzilla, reimagines Shakespeare’s tragedy on a kaiju scale, blending feuding families, budding romance, and large-scale destruction in Verona. Artist Sean Peacock says, “It’s such a treat to put my own spin on the King of the Monsters as well as one of The Bard’s most famous plays,” adding that reading Romeo & Juliet in ninth grade English never suggested a future where fair Verona would be “destroyed in a kaiju attack.” A fan of the original Monsterpiece Theatre, Peacock says there is “some really insane stuff in this book” and that the chance to contribute to the follow-up is an honor. The comic is written by Adam Tierney, who credits Scioli with setting the tone. “Tom Scioli has invented such a unique take on Godzilla,” Tierney says. “It’s an honor to play in that sandbox and also reimagine one of Shakespeare’s greatest plays.” Tierney notes that the project may be the first IDW comic written in iambic pentameter and says the team leaned fully into the concept, adding, “I can’t wait for everyone to see all the craziness we’ve come up with.” Each one-shot also includes a five-page backup story by Tom Scioli. For the debut issue, that backup pairs Godzilla with another literary icon in Robin Hood and the Monster of Nottingham, giving Sherwood Forest the Monsterpiece Theatre treatment. Scioli describes the backups as the “dessert and coffee” at the end of each issue, explaining that Godzilla Meets Robin Hood and His Merry Band of Outlaws is an ongoing feature made up of “self-contained minisodes” that combine into a larger epic. “I’ve been working really hard on it,” Scioli says. “Get ready to explore exciting new and old territory Godzilla’s never gone before.” Editor Jake Williams says the original Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theatre left an immediate impression. “When I first read the script, I had a smile on my face so big and dumb it almost hurt,” Williams says, calling it “an absolute masterpiece of cartooning, comedy, and heart.” Williams adds that comedy comics are often overlooked, but Scioli showed how Godzilla could be used “as a giant force for parody and laughs.” That same reaction returned, Williams says, when reading Tierney’s Romeo & Juliet and Godzilla script and seeing Peacock’s cartooning. Romeo & Juliet and Godzilla goes on sale April 8, 2026, with pre-orders due by March 2. The issue runs 52 pages and is priced at $7.99 USD.
